Get creative

• Do a photo shoot complete with themes, props, and costumes.
• Have a snowball fight. Ball up old magazine pages or used paper to make snowballs, choose sides, plan your strategy, and attack!
• Record a reader's theatre episode, using dramatic voices and sound effects to tell a story.

Keeping little ones busy

• Fill a flat box with a few cups of rice or cereal to make an indoor sandbox. Add shovels, toy trucks, etc.

• Let your child finger paint in the tub. You can tape paper to the tile, and afterward, cleaning up the tub (and your child) is super-easy.

• Arrange an indoor safari. Hide stuffed animals around the house, arm kids with flashlights, and send them off to find the animals. This is most fun at night!

• Play baseball indoors! Blow bubbles and have your child swing at them with a plastic bat.

a kid-inspired idea
One Saturday, I promised my kids I'd take them to the park, but a rainstorm kept us inside. To make up for it, we decided to have a picnic in the living room. We made sandwiches and cut them into squares, ate pickles out of the jar, and tossed mini marshmallows into each other's mouths. It was so fun, my kids keep asking to do it again.
